Training Specialist

The Training Specialist will assist the managing of all aspects of training for the program. You will contribute to the development and implementation of training strategies to achieve consistent and effective training throughout the user and support change management efforts.
 
  • Conducts training needs analysis by obtaining information from departmental managers and supervisors in regard to gaps in employee performance in comparison to work standards.
  • Designs and develops training programs, or makes changes or updates existing training programs as needed; consults with subject matter experts to design training; determines training objectives and methods of instruction; develops power point presentations, course outlines, handouts, job aids, lesson plans, visual aids, agendas, outlines, and power point presentations for instruction.
  • Previews vendor instructional materials and evaluates them for purchase and use in training programs.
  • Researches technical materials and analyzes data to determine if such materials and data relate to the training program(s).
  • Drafts, edits, and prepares power point handouts, handbooks, manuals, training bulletins, and other related documents.
  • Conducts classroom training using methods and techniques such as group discussion and facilitation, behavior modeling, demonstrations, simulations, and lecture methods.
  • Assembles, sets up, operates, and disassembles personal computers, projectors, computer accessories or peripherals, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of new or revised training programs; develops survey forms, distributes and obtains survey forms to and from training participants; reviews completed survey forms and feedback from training participants; and summarizes input or feedback on such programs to departmental management.
  • Provides support of training programs by locating and arranging for speakers/instructors, training equipment, rooms, and space.
  • Prepares written learning and instructional materials such as facilitation guides, instructor-led training material, job aids, etc.
  • Designs and develops distance learning, including web-based training and performance support material by using a variety of e-learning tools in compliance with Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) standards.
  • Maintains administrative changes in the Learning Management System (LMS) and training-related databases
  • Performs or coordinates the inventory, ordering, pre-packaging, and issuing of program supplies and equipment.
  • Gives input or provides advice to departmental or outside trainers on matters or issues pertaining to the content of the training program or needs/characteristics of the training participants.
  • Exchanges information with representatives of other public agencies and private companies in regard to training topics or matters.
  • Keeps current with methods, trends, technology, or other topics pertaining to the training industry.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Updates and maintains records, files, logs, databases, and spreadsheets.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design training strategy and curriculum.
  • Lead the development of written and graphic content for training media (including but not limited to e-Learning and webinars).
  • Design communications assessments, including the definition of performance metrics and establish monitoring and controls.
  • Support training efforts.
  • Support change management efforts.
  • Written or spoken communication and training curriculum, tools, presentations.
  • Develop and update project planning documents.
  • Develop and update training curriculum that includes, e-Learnings, webinars, job aids, and quick reference guides.
  • Project status reports, including those required by using specified reporting tools (e.g. Contract Business Process Review – CBPR).
  • Coordination of activities.
  • Track and log project deliverables and ensure that deliverables are placed in the project documentation files.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Recent experience within the last 2 years.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Quick learner, able to accurately assimilate and analyze information from a variety of sources, and synthesize to produce consumable products.
  • Demonstrated ability to create messages and communication tools for broad audiences.
  • Knowledge of and proven ability supporting the development and coordination of training campaigns, from research, to planning and implementation, to evaluation.
  • Knowledge of change management principles.
  • Experience using learning management systems.
  • Experience using e-Learning development tools, preferably e-learning tools in compliance with Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) standards.
  • Experience using Camtasia Studio.
  • Experience in leading live training sessions via webinar and designing trainings using webinar tools.
  • Strong computer skills, including: Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, SharePoint, LMS, internet.
  • Strong understanding of technology and how it supports business.
  • Soft skills: creative, focused, strong organizational skills, problem solver, attention to detail, flexible, proactive.
